About Dr. Kandy SteelPossessing more than 25 years of experience in education, Dr. Kandy Steel serves as mentor and liaison for the University of Northern Colorado’s Center for Urban Education located at the Aurora Campus in Aurora, Colorado. Prior to this role, which she took on in July 2016, Dr. Kandy Steel worked as deputy superintendent for Adams County District 14 in Commerce City, Colorado. In this position, she directed administrative functions, supervised instructional directors, and guided instructional leadership.
To help her remain involved in the education sector, Dr. Kandy Steel maintains membership with several professional organizations, including the Colorado Association for Middle Level Education (CAMLE) and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). She also belongs to state-based organizations, such as the Colorado Association of School Executives.
Dr. Kandy Steel earned her associate’s degree from Muscatine Community College in Muscatine, Iowa. She transferred to the University of Missouri in St. Louis and obtained a bachelor’s degree in physical education for K-12. From there, she earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Phoenix's Denver branch, additionally, focusing on attaining her K-12 principal's licensure from the Colorado Department of Education. Finally, she earned a doctoral degree in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
